Event and Special-Occasion Spray Tanning: Getting Camera-Ready

An event spray tan is tailored to the occasion. The depth of color, the solution formula, and the timing of the appointment all depend on whether you're preparing for a gala, a professional photo shoot, a red-carpet appearance, a maternity session, or a tropical vacation.

Lighting changes how a tan reads. Flash photography and stage lights can wash out a shallow tan, so events with strong lighting often call for a slightly deeper, more defined bronze. Natural outdoor light, by contrast, flatters a lighter, more sun-kissed glow. Tell your artist about the setting so they can choose the right depth.

Timing matters too. For a single-day event, most artists schedule the tan one to two days before, when the color has fully developed and settled into its most even, natural finish. For a week-long vacation, you might book a tan the day before departure and plan a top-up midway through the trip.

Hydration in the days before and after the appointment extends the life of the color. Ask your artist about a maintenance routine — a gentle, sulfate-free body wash and a light, oil-free moisturizer help the tan fade evenly rather than patchy as the week goes on.
